Elkhart, Indiana

March 16, 2012

Hi Kids!

Tidy Teddy went to visit Ms. Stamper’s mom in Elkhart, Indiana. He played with her cat, Cleo, and then helped take her dog, Maddie, for a walk! They went to Wellfield Botanic Gardens to walk the dogs. This garden is a beautiful place with lots of flowers and statues and a really big pond! Maddie loved sniffing all of the flowers, and Tidy Teddy enjoyed climbing on the statues! In these pictures, Tidy Teddy is playing on the baby bear statues while Momma Bear watches, and he is climbing on an elk statue. He wanted to show you how big an elk is compared to him. You can visit the garden, too…just click here…http://www.wellfieldgardens.org/

New Orleans, Louisiana

Dear Ms. England’s Class,

Recently, Tidy Teddy went on a trip with me and Ms. England to New Orleans, Louisiana. We got to do lots of fun stuff! First, we visited Café du Monde, which is famous for its beignets (French-style donuts), and then we walked around the famous French Quarter. TT even got to sit on top of an Alligator’s mouth! After that, we visited the old New Orleans Mint and listened to some great live jazz music. At the mint, they produced coins for over 100 years!
Finally, we got to go to a crawfish boil on a levee near the Mississippi River. They boiled the crawfish right in front of us before we ate them- they were delicious! TT even got to meet my aunt and uncle’s cat, whose name is Fat Kitty- she’s REALLY fat, but she liked TT. You can see my Aunt Peggy and my cousin Katey in the picture at the crawfish boil. We had such a great trip, and hope to come back soon!

Love,
Mr. Perkins

Mount Everest, Nepal

October 23, 2011

Dear Ms. England’s class,

Brrrrr! Tidy Teddy is sure glad to be back in Nashville, where it is warm!  Tidy Teddy just got back from a trip to the bottom of the world’s tallest mountain – Mount Everest!  Mount Everest is in a country called Nepal, which is all the way on the other side of the world, right in between India and China. It took Tidy Teddy 18 hours on an airplane to get there! But Tidy Teddy was glad that he went there, so he could see so many cool new things like these animals called Yaks that are like cows that live high up in the mountains. They have really long fur to keep them warm and long horns, which scared Tidy Teddy a little bit, even though he is a bear.  Instead of using wood logs to burn in a fire to keep them warm in the winter, the people that live in the mountains burn Yak poo to keep them warm.  YUCK!  You can see them drying it out here.

On the way back down, Tidy Teddy also lived through an earthquake! He was so scared – the ground started shaking, and everyone ran outside! Some of the roofs of the buildings started to fall down, but luckily, no one was hurt (including Tidy Teddy).  Tidy Teddy has had enough adventure for now – he is glad to be back with Ms. England’s class in Nashville, where there aren’t any mountains!

Namaste (that means “good day” in Nepal)!
Kristin (Ms. England’s friend)
