Crater Lake National Park, Oregon

August 17, 2012

Dear Ms. England’s Class,

This past week, Tidy Teddy and I visited Crater Lake National Park in Oregon! Crater Lake is a giant lake on top of a mountain that was once a volcano. 7,700 years ago, a massive eruption blew the top off of the mountain, and it has been filling with water ever since! Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States, and is the 7th deepest in the world. The water here is also the clearest in the world- you can sometimes see over 100 feet deep into the water! For those of you who like to swim, the water is really cold but really refreshing.

Love,
Mr. Perkins

Springfield, Oregon

Dear Ms. England’s class,

Teddy came to visit Oregon!  He spent the weekend with me and my family on our horse farm in Springfield, Oregon.  Teddy had to travel more than 2,300 miles to come see us.  He made it to Oregon just in time to see a baby horse being born, it was very exciting. We stayed up very late to make sure that the new baby and mother were doing well, the next morning we got up and turned the rest horses out.  As you can see from the pictures, it is very rainy in Oregon, which is what makes it so green this time of year.  Teddy also helped feed the chickens and got to play with a batch of kittens that were born on the farm a few weeks ago.  After all our morning chores were done I took Teddy for a riding lesson, he was a natural and had a very good time.

Teddy had lots of fun taking care of all the animals on the farm, but it is a lot of work so we decided to have some fun and go to the coast for a quick visit.  Oregon is on the Pacific Ocean and has beautiful beaches, but it can be a bit cold and windy this time of year so even the dogs wear their coats!

We all had a great visit with Teddy and hope his adventure continues,

Sincerely,

Lauren & Gustavo (and all the animals at the farm)
