Plainfield, New Hampshire

July 28, 2011

Dear class,

Today, Tidy Teddy visited Townline Tractors, a big tractor store in central New Hampshire. He got to ride on a lot of different tractors, old and new, and all different colors! Mr. Perkins and I even got to ride on them with him! He also got to drive a machine called a “Bobcat”, which has big treads like a tank and has a bucket on the front for picking up dirt and rocks. Tidy Teddy had so much fun that he wants to ride in one again soon!

Chilamate, Costa Rica

July 27, 2011

Buenos Dias Ms. England’s Class,

Wow! What an incredible summer I have had. Believe it or not, I just took a trip to Costa Rica! Costa Rica is a country located below the United States in an area called Central America. It is a very hot and beautiful place that is home to thousands of unique animals, such as snakes, monkeys, and strange-looking bugs. Not only do they have a diverse group of animals, but they also grow many of the foods we enjoy, including pineapples, bananas, and coffee.  I was fortunate to be able to stay in a rainforest lodge (and yes, it rains a lot in the rainforest!!!) in an area called Chilamate. It was absolutely amazing, and I had a great time. I can’t wait to see all of you back in the classroom!
Love,
Tidy Teddy

Thetford, Vermont

July 26, 2011

Dear class,

Today, Tidy Teddy, Mr. Perkins, and I visited the “Vermontasaurus” in Thetford, Vermont.  The Vermontasaurus is a 25-foot tall and 125-foot long folk art representation of a dinosaur on the grounds of the Post Mills Airport.  It was created by Brian Boland, a retired teacher and experimental balloon pilot.  Together with a crew of volunteers, they used scrap lumber from a collapsed portion of Boland’s private museum and hot-air balloon manufacturing facility to build the dinosaur.  Mr. Boland and his volunteers built the Vermontasaurus in 5 days in June of 2010.  Tidy Teddy looked so small next to the Vermontasaurus, but he loved it!

Gatlinburg, Tennessee

July 25, 2011

Dear Ms. England’s class,

Tidy Teddy traveled with my family and I to Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  He spent time with my son-in-law Corey and my grandson Myles at the hotel we stayed at.  He even swam with my grandson Master and granddaughter Molly at the pool! He had so much fun and especially loved going down the water slide.  Later, he got ready at the hotel with my grandchildren to see some 4th of July fireworks.  Before we left, Tidy Teddy met some other bears and they became good friends.  See you all back at school!

Love,

Dr. Streit

Spain

Hola, Clase de Ms. England!!

On June 21, I flew to Spain with my mom and Tidy Teddy. We didn’t get there until June 22! It was a long flight! We flew into Madrid and immediately went to the Museo Nacional del Prado (the Prado Museum). We couldn’t take pictures inside, so I took a picture of Tidy Teddy with the museum map…which was in Spanish!

The next day, we drove 6 hours south to the Costa del Sol and found our hotel in Benahavis. It was beautiful!! Tidy Teddy liked to hang out at the pool a lot while we were there. He always remembered to wear sunscreen, though!

We spent a couple of days driving around looking at Southern Spain. A lot of villages were made up of buildings and houses that were all white and built on hills. Very pretty but very hard to walk through…lots of ups and downs!

One day we went to a beach that had black sand! This sand was very hot, and we had to run to the water to cool our feet! Tidy Teddy gathered some of the sand for Mrs. Thomas since she collects sand from around the world.

We spent a whole day in Granada, Spain which is famous for the Alhambra, which is a palace and fortress complex built in the 1300’s. Sultans, kings, and queens lived here! The picture of Tidy Teddy and me together was taken in the room where Christopher Columbus asked Ferdinand and Isabella to give him money for his voyage in 1492. In another room, called The Hall of Two Sisters, the designs on the wall inspired M.C. Escher in his mathematics work and future artwork!

With only a few days left in Spain, Tidy Teddy, my mom, and I went to a few other towns to see lots of interesting things! We saw windmills, castles, and bullrings. Even though bullfighting is a very historically popular activity in Spain, we did not go to see a bullfight. Tidy Teddy did hang out with ToroLoco (Crazy Bull) for a little bit, though!

It was a fun and exciting trip, and I was very glad that Tidy Teddy was able to go with me!

Adios!

Santa Fe, New Mexico

June 19, 2011

Hi Ms. England’s Class!!

Just after school let out, I traveled to Santa Fe, New Mexico and guess who came with me….Tidy Teddy!! I went to Santa Fe to stay with some friends of mine and help take care of their little boys. We had a lot of fun while I was there! The little boys that I took care of are Thomas, who is almost 3, and Freddy who is 5! We did so many things while I was there. We went to the Children’s Museum a lot because Freddy went to Bug Camp there every day. Thomas and I played in the museum while Freddy was at camp. Thomas and Tidy Teddy liked to go through the kid-size door at the front of the museum!

The boys and I also went to the movies, made lots of crafts and even held some snakes! The boys love Star Wars and one day when we were downtown Santa Fe we found this postal box that was decorated like R2D2!! We were all very excited!! So was Tidy Teddy!!

It was a lot of fun to share Santa Fe with Tidy Teddy! I’m hoping he’ll go with me on my next trip!

Love,

Ms. Stamper
